Do the cells develop an immunity, or is it more basic as was shown few years ago that the outer membrane of the cell changes polarity so the immune system can not attack due to same polarity ( negative ) and the free radicals ( free electrons) are repelled, not attracted.

The base explanation is one of chemistry and chemical reactions. A reason for showing this video to you is to impose on the graphics the potentials of polarity and how it would/could prevent the movement of chemical receptors from attaching to target cells. Anytime one sees "movement" from point A to target point B one must remember the movement is not random, it's directed. What directs it? Generally and was shown in 2014 in recent study it's the polarity of the cellular membranes. If you bombard the areas with electrons ( flow of electricity is electrons going from one wire/electrode to the other and the path through the body the electrical current takes), then you alter the polarity of the cell walls. Opposite polarities attract, same polarities repel.
If the cells being targeted for cancer cell attachment and growth have the same polarity then one must have repulsion, not attraction. Our body does this to stay healthy from the moment of life and has evolved and prospered throughout one's lifetime. A healthy cell has a general negative polarity which means our immune system using free radicals ( - charge as is a free electron) so the immune systems free radical is repulsed from a healthy cell and is attracted to the cancer cells ( + polarity as has been shown the potential cancer cells have positive cell membrane charge).

Physicists try to understand the differences, if any, between matter vis a vis electrons and waves of energy. One of the basic principles of interferential therapy or cross currents administered in the body is we don't know what is really going on. This excellent video explains the difficulties quantum physicists have understanding this concept outside the body in the "real world". Reactions of flowing electrons in these experiments should be predictable, however as you will see they are not. The mere power of observation changes the spatial patterns of electron particles and/or waves.
As you watch this video remember the two areas we can understand are the starting points and the landing points but it's the middle of those two points that baffle us. Also keep in mind that we technically do not know where electrons are as they circumnavigate the nucleus of an atom. We are about 90% certain of an area they should be in but we don't know where is the present understanding we have of electron flow patterns.

This is an outstanding video by medial illustrator, David Bolinsky, showing the activity of living human cells. The actual video of the internal activity of the cell starts at 7:02 in the video.
Prior to that moment it's important to hear how Mr. Bolinsky describes the macrophages circulating in our blood, not knowing if a pathogen exists outside the vessel that the macrophage needs to destroy. Mr. Bolinsky describes the attraction and how the macrophage changes shape to enter into the membrane wall. This is another confirmation that ion channels are vessels of transport however the protein/particulate matter being transported has to be in the correct form. A helical particle is larger than it would be if merely longitudinal. Mass does matter in ion channels and the mass is the form of the matter allows, or restricts passage through the channel.
